When you make the decision to change your life, you are going to feel uncomfortable.
That’s why it can be so difficult to demonstrate real and lasting change in our lives - it doesn’t feel comfortable.
AND its not just that we feel comfortable in well worn our patterns & habits, we are actually emotionally addicted to them!
We commonly think that we can only become addicted to external substances or behaviors- drugs, gambling, shopping etc but research shows that we actually become addicted to the circumstances of our lives
Put very simply- our thoughts create chemicals and we become dependent on those chemicals.
This is why change feels so uncomfortable. When we decide to take a new job, move across the country or even decide to be less angry, we actually go through chemical withdrawals for our old lives- even if those old patterns and habits weren’t serving our highest best selves.
You have to break the habit of being addicted to your old life. You have to overcome and choose a new life in every moment.
The good news is that knowing that when you start to feel uncomfortable you are on your way to breaking a habit can help you stay the course. That uncomfortable feeling is a clue- a clue that you are on the path to real change.
Make the decision to get comfortable being uncomfortable. And real change will begin.
