Staying PUT
3/12/20
Sometimes the best course of action is no action at all.
A common response to times of great uncertainty is to take Action, we feel that we must DO something in order to avoid and/or handle a crisis. Wanting to take action is understandable when we feel helpless and want to control our world so we feel safe.
But what do you do once the pantry is stocked and you have washed your hands a million times? what do you do when the world feels so uncertain and there seems to be nothing else you can do?
Sometimes all you need to do is just Stay PUT.
Patience. Understanding. Trust.
Not forever. Just for now. Practice staying PUT.
Patience: Practice being calm and having patience with yourself. Use this time to work on issues of reparenting and self care. Have patience with those close to you who you might be spending more time with. What we need now is patience. Practice patience so you can love yourself and others extra right now.
Understanding: Be aware that when we feel unsafe we are more likely to drop into flight, fight or shut down mode. Be kind and loving with the feelings and reactions that come up for you during this time. Also be understanding of others reactions to a crisis. Not everyone is at their best highest self when faced with uncertainty. Being aware of our differences will help us love them extra right now.
Trust: Breathe deep and know that this time will pass. Everything does. Trust that your thoughts and feelings make a difference in the world. Trust in the power of love and gratitude and in your ability to be a hero of the light in dark times. Know that we are all in this together and we will be get through this.
So yes, of course take whatever actions you feel necessary to keep us all safe.
But know when its time to just stay PUT.
We may not be able to control the world around us but we can always practice:
Patience. Understanding. Trust.
Just stay PUT.
And remember, you are not alone. we are all in this together. All the love and light being beamed your way.
