When you talk about what you want in your life, do you often hear yourself uttering these 2 little words?
“Yeah But….”
“I want to start a new career-yeah but, I’m too old to start over”.
“I want to find someone to spend my life with- yeah but, all of the good ones are taken”.
“I want to get in shape- yeah but, I don’t have time to exercise”.
Our words have power. And the words we choose when we talk to ourselves and others matter.
“Yeah but” stops your dream in its tracks.
“Yeah but” keeps you limited. Keeps you stuck.
The words we speak influence how we think. And how we think influences how we feel. And how we feel helps to create our lives.
So how do you stop “Yeah But from postponing your possibilities? How do you keep your words from putting up obstacles to your opportunities?
Start paying attention to how many times a day these two little words sneak into your vocabulary.
As in I want X, Yeah But Y…..
Most likely you are doing this unconsciously.
And like anything else we do without much thought “Yeah But” can become a habit. And a habit can be changed.
Practice stopping the Habit of Yeah But by switching to more empowering language.
Try out words like: What if? I know. I can.
As in:
“I want to start a new career and what if it’s not too late for me?”
“I want to find someone to spend my life with and I know I will meet my perfect partner.”
“I want to get in shape and I can find the time to make it a priority.”
When you first try to drop the Habit of Yeah But it will feel like you are lying to yourself, like you are denying reality.
You words are powerful. You are powerful.
Watch your words and then watch your life begin to change for the better.
Can you drop the Habit of Yeah But?
