If we want to change our lives, we need to learn to focus more on the "what if" of what could be and less on the "what is" of our present reality. Because whatever we focus on we get more of- and most of us spend our days focusing only on what we can feel and see and touch in our present reality. So we get more of the same.
Anyone who has ever created a whole new life has held on to a vision and the feeling of their new experience that was greater than their current circumstances. So we must learn to master this skill if we truly want something different in our lives.
However, it can be extremely challenging to hold on to a vision of your new life while you are living your current one. Every day we get constant confirmation of "what is"- from our physical bodies to our relationships to our bank accounts. You look around and say this is "what is". We say: sure, I can wish for a new life but this is what I have.
The trick is not to deny this reality, it is to overcome it by focusing more on the possibility of "what if" than the reality of "what is".
And our Feelings are the key to helping us get there. The good news is that our bodies do not know the difference between something we have imagined and an actual event. We can feel the feelings of something that has only happened in our minds.
So how do we get into the feeling place of our desired future life?
1. Make the decision to be open to the possibility of "what if".
2. Become aware of your thoughts and what you are focused on.
3. Mediate & Journal on what your new life would really Feel like
And as you go about your days just try to get into the feeling place of "what if" more than the 'what is". This is a simple process that is not always easy to practice. But if you do the work you will see your life begin to change.
A wonderful resource to start your "what if" journey is the groundbreaking work of Dr. Joe Dispenza- especially his book Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself.
Also check out the Future Self Journal from the @theholisticpsychologist- it is a really great daily practice to help you get into the feelings of "what if" land.
And remember, the deliberate intention of changing your life is Big Work. So please be kind and gentle with yourself as you learn to get more into "what if" than "what is".
