When you think of something that you want to have, do or be in your life is it one thought? Or is it really two thoughts? 

When we want to change our lives we often think of what we want followed immediately but the negation of that thought. It's not one thought, it's two. 

For example , we might think- I want to go back to school but I am too old. 

I want to move to a new city, but I don't have the money.

I want to start a new business, but I don't have enough education. 

I want to speak up more at work, but I am not brave enough.

I want a new relationship, but there are no good people to date. 

This Two Thought Thinking will keep us from moving forward in our lives. We are not really focusing on what we want. We are focusing on not being able to have what we want. 

Our thoughts are powerful. Our thoughts determine our feelings and this thinking-feeling loop keeps us from changing our lives. 

 So how do you get out of the 2 thought thinking? how do you stop sabotaging your dreams? 

You have to become aware of the duality of your thoughts. And the good news is that our big beautiful brains can help us do this. We have the superpower of Metacognition- meaning we can think about what we think about. 

So become aware of your thoughts. Try replacing "I want" with "I am" or "I have". 

As in " I am moving to a new city" or "I have a wonderful new relationship".  This will seem uncomfortable at first- it will feel like you are lying to yourself. 

But if you stick with it and really practice One Thought Thinking- you will start to feel the feelings of having your goal accomplished. You will move toward what you want instead of away from it. 

You will start to live in the possibly of the thing.  

You will begin to create a new future. 

You will stop sabotaging your dreams.  

Remember, your words are powerful. Your thoughts and feelings are powerful. 

You are powerful. 

And you can change begin to change your life- just by asking yourself, β€œIs it one thought? Or two?”
