The Best of Us

Even in the midst of all of the current tragedy and chaos we are witnessing extraordinary acts of human kindness and connection.

This global pandemic has the ability to bring out The Best of Us. And we are seeing examples of this all around us.

Nurses and doctors are selflessly coming out of retirement to work in our hospitals

School children stuck at home are writing letters of hope to strangers in retirement homes

People are leaving notes of encouragement for each other in apartment building lobbies

Neighbors are going to the grocery store for those who don’t feel comfortable leaving home to shop.

Professional athletes are paying the salaries of thousands of arena workers displaced by the shutdown.

Businesses are offering free online consulting.

Therapists are giving virtual sessions.

Places of worship are offering online services.

People are donating to help struggling small businesses.

And oh so much Online connection is happening!

We are connecting via online video conferencing - there are virtual happy hours, game nights, high school reunions, knitting circles, concerts & sing alongs!

We are seeing the Best of us in this Worst of times.

We are hardwired to connect- to turn in to one another in times of crisis. This longing for community is part of what makes us human.

Connection has the power to heal us.

So lets keep bringing out the Best of Us through acts of kindness, comfort and aid

And if you feel in need of connection right now perhaps you need to reach out to someone yourself.

Keep a daily “check in” list of family, friends, neighbors to connect with on the phone or online.

Keep the connection strong and we will keep seeing the best of us.
