The Upside

Not to discount the extreme seriousness of this crisis but could there be a bit of an Upside to being Inside?

These are dark times- the darkest that many of us have seen in our lifetimes. The situation we are currently in is unpredictable and frustrating. We are all hunkering down in an attempt to stop the spread of this scary virus.

And at the same time we are beginning to see that there might be a tiny silver lining to spending all of this time at home.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to shelter in a safe and loving home are experiencing a little bit of an upside of this new normal:

We are cooking together and sharing meals with one another.

We are spending time with our children that we normally wouldn’t have.

We are reconnecting with our partners.

We are virtually connecting with friends, clients and coworkers.

We are finding time for projects that we have been meaning to get to.

We are cleaning and organizing and experiencing the life changing power of tidying up!

We are writing and reading and creating.

And the biggest upside to all this time at home?

We are learning what is really important to us.

We are learning what we can really live without.

We are learning what we miss in our day to day lives

A hug. A handshake. A face to face conversation. A shared meal at our favorite restaurant. Chatting with our hairdresser. running errands.

We are learning that it is truly the simple things that matter most.

The simple things we have now and the simple things we will have again.

We will get through this time and when we do lets please not forget the lessons we learned from our time at home.

There truly can be an Upside to being Inside.
